Project overview

Our client’s requirement

Cairn made its first Rajasthan discovery in 1999 and in 2004, discovered the Mangala field. As the largest onshore discovery in India for more than 25 years, the Mangala field has the potential to provide more than 25% of India’s daily crude oil production.

In developing the field, Cairn and its joint venture partners commissioned the Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT) and Mangala Development Pipeline (MDP) which consists of a four-train crude oil processing terminal and 670km pipeline. In delivering these projects, the challenge was to maintain visibility and certainty of the key project drivers including cost, schedule, risk and return on investment.

project story

Our contribution

From Cairn’s operations and project locations in Edinburgh, Rajasthan and Gurgaon, as well as the engineering contractor’s offices in Houston, our oil and gas experts supported Cairn with the development of the Rajasthan capital projects portfolio. This included the MPT and MDP, and later the extension of the processing terminal to increase production capacity.

Our role included management of the PMO group including planning, cost control, estimating and project development governance.

Making the difference

We were also responsible for the integration of project controls activities across the full Rajasthan capital projects portfolio, making sure that work plans were aligned and contributed towards the overall business targets and mission. This visibility enabled us to facilitate workshops to capture lessons learnt and review existing processes and procedures in line with best practice, supporting Cairn’s strategy to develop new business opportunities and projects.
